Welcome to the Wisbech Community Archive
Wisbech is an historic market town about 25 miles north of Peterborough. It is known as the "Capital of the Fens", and its history can be traced back to the Roman Times. There are many wonderful Georgian buildings which were described by Pevsner as "one of the most perfect Georgian streets of England".
The drainage of the Fens bought great prosperity to the town and merchants grew wealthy from the crops which were (and still are) grown.
Generations of folk people have worked on the land as the soil is some of the most fertile in the country.
